Good Time Charlie

danny-okeefe-good-time-charlies-got-the-blues-signpostThe hit country music song, Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues, was first written and performed by Danny O’Keefe in 1967.  Since then, it’s been covered by artists as varied as Elvis Presley, Rita Wilson and Willie Nelson.  Not surprisingly, in my humble opinion, the best one was performed by (who else?) Dwight Yoakam.

But you knew I’d say that, right?

South Florida has its own Good Time Charlie, a/k/a Nacivre Charles, most recently caught on camera after being arrested in North Miami:

Nacivre CharlesThe Miami Herald’s Nadege Green published a follow up, in depth story to the absentee-ballot fraud case today in Political operative at center of ballot-fraud investigation, which details Charlie’s storied career in politics.

An even better column about Good Time Charlie’s history can be found on a local blogger’s page.  In Just what does it take to become a political operative here in Miami?, The Straw Buyer recalls the sordid tale of a 1999 bust resulting from a federal undercover sting involving drugs and guns being smuggled in by employees at Miami International Airport.  One of the approximately fifty people indicted was none other than Nacivre Charles.

Interesting fella, eh?

Nowadays, Charlie works campaigns for a living.  He was employed by the campaign of Reverend Richard P. Dunn, II, who is vying for a seat on the City of Miami’s Commission.  He also worked on North Miami Mayor Lucie Tondreau’s campaign, and is now involved in an investigation involving absentee-ballot fraud.  The Straw Buyer penned, “LOL!  If Mr. Charles is adept at smuggling narcotics, weapons and explosives, delivering Reverend Dunn some votes shouldn’t be a problem.”

Charlie, however, seems to be untouchable.  In fact, he doesn’t appear to have a care in the world as you can see by this snapshot of him on election day in North Miami last spring, which was posted on former council candidate Joseph Haber’s Facebook page:

CharlieIt sure doesn’t look like our Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues, does it?

Then again, why should he?  After all, this is South Florida where crime really does pay.  Especially absentee-ballot fraud.

Just ask Deisy Cabrera!

  1. I recommend they go ahead with Biscayne Landing. Then give free condos to this jackass,Andre Pierre, Lucy Tondreau, Marie Steril and the rest of their people riding the Corruption Express. Maybe in due time they’ll look like something out of a Stephen King novel and if we’re lucky their offspring will be sterile.
