The “hidden danger” of social media

Danger Social MediaFirst of all, I extend a mass apology to anyone on my email list who received an email with the subject, “Stephanie Kienzle added you as a contact on Twoo and wants to connect.”

If I’m already “connected” to you, I obviously don’t need to invite you to join a website to seal the deal.

While the world of social media is a boon for anyone who wants to know what’s going on outside their four walls, there are a few “hidden dangers” to the new connectivity.

In this instance, I was invited by a Facebook friend to join the website Twoo.  I decided to accept the invitation, and the next thing I know, the website sent out an email to everyone in my email address book inviting them to join.

Even people I despise (and who despise me back) probably got an invitation.

Note to Biscayne Park Commissioner Fred Jonas:  I do NOT want to connect with you.

Not on Facebook.

Not on Twitter.

Not on Twoo.

Not in REAL LIFE!

EVER!

Speaking of Fred Jonas, he got one of those invitations and promptly sent me the following email:

Fred Jonas Email

Wow!  I’m “dangerous!”  I had no idea LOL!

Nevertheless, I replied:

Email Reply to Fred Jonas

That was when I was first alerted that there was a problem.

I’ve received phone calls and emails since this morning asking me, “What’s up with that?”

I hope this clears things up.  If you get one of those invitations, please disregard.  (I already deleted that account anyway.)

Oh, and Fred, by the way:

  1. How about sticking to the important topics that concern your citizen/resident followers rather than writing about yourself. If I want a glimpse into the personal life of “stars”, I will watch the Kardashian’s.

    1. How about I get to write what I want? I assume no one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read my blog.

If you want to pay me for this “job” or invest some capital in VotersOpinion, LLC, however, I’ll be more than happy to take your suggestions.

“KEEP YOUR FOOD. WILL WORK FOR A PAYCHECK.”

  2. I would note for readers that often times these services ask for access to your data as a condition of use. Always be careful when signing up for any online service, especially one which asks for any kind of “permission” or “access” to anything.
