New MOCA article published; NoMi issues a statement

MOCA

The Daily Business Review just published an article, MOCA Battle Escalates: Board Moving To Design District.  It’s worth reading, so check it out.

Also, North Miami Public Information Manager Pam Solomon issued a statement yesterday, stating:

THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART, NORTH MIAMI TO REMAIN

IN NORTH MIAMI

North Miami, FL – August 6, 2014 – The City of North Miami entered into mediation with the outgoing Board of Trustees of MOCA in good faith two months ago.  As we continue to work on the final stages of the mediation process, it is unfortunate that the Board has released statements that add a sense of confusion to the matter.  Statements made by the outgoing Board were not authorized through the mediation process, nor are they consistent with the intent and spirit of the continuing mediation.

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is not affiliated with an interim museum facility or with the outgoing Board of Trustees.  MOCA will continue to serve its mission to “make contemporary art accessible to diverse populations, especially the underserved” from its original location in North Miami.  We look forward to unveiling our programming for the upcoming season shortly.

MOCA and the City of North Miami thank the museum staff, employees and volunteers, along with the museum’s many loyal patrons and donors for their ongoing support over the past 34 years.  We look forward to playing a major role in the global impact that the entire arts community has as Miami evolves into an arts epicenter in the 21st century.

Upcoming programs and exhibitions presented by MOCA Director, Babacar Mbow, will  be announced shortly.
