Gone

Welcome to DavieIn case you were wondering why it’s been so quiet around here lately, I’ve spent the last few weeks selling my North Miami Beach house and moving into my new one. As of one week ago, I officially crossed the border into Broward County. Luckily, I had my passport.

I have not yet injected myself into the local politics of the Town of Davie.  But how cool would it be to check out a council meeting at this Town Hall?

Davie Town HallSeriously cool, right?

So far, the only “political” thing I’ve done is find out when the garbage is picked up.

Still, you just know I’ll end up getting involved in the local political scene sooner or later.

It’s just a question of time before I piss someone off at Town Hall.  It’s what I do.

Not that there isn’t plenty going on North Miami and North Miami Beach to write about.  I just haven’t had any time or energy – or the inclination – to post a blog. Hopefully, this inertia is just a temporary condition.  The upcoming North Miami run-off election should eventually slap the lazy out of me.

But, for now, I’m just enjoying that fact that when I walk out of my house, my car is still there.

Although it is kinda quiet around here without any Friday night drive-by shootings.

It’s those little things that’ll take some getting used to.

In the meantime, though, I thought I’d share a few random thoughts with y’all.

Spike, my office lizard, says “hello.”

SpikeAnd, check this out!  The Davie Pro Rodeo’s website has a countdown clock for the Southeastern Circuit Finals starting on November 6, 2014.

Bergeron Rodeo GroundsOh, yeah.  I could so get used to this tranquility.

But, knowing me, I won’t.

The lure of dirty politics is just too hard to resist.  You just know I’ll be back at it soon enough.

Just not today.

  1. Wishing you all the best in your new home. Thank you for your years of dependable community involvement here in North Miami Beach!!!

    1. I don’t know about square dancing, but we could go line dancing. Now that is some serious fun! Let me know when you want to go.

  2. Thank you for Votersopinion, continually providing great local News and Entertainment. Congratulations on escaping. What a loss to our community. Best of Luck in Davie. As they say, “Ride em cowboy”.

    1. No, I am an actual resident of Davie now. Unfortunately, my Congresscritter is Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Unfortunately for her, that is. I’d take the hat lady over DWS any day.

Oh, dear. This was no a good way to start the day, was it?

  3. I have only recently become a fan of yours and believe you do a very important service to the residents of NM & NMB. While I wish you all that you may want for yourself….please don’t stop doing what you do!!! And that includes NM & NMB along with possibly your new haunts. All the best

    1. I do plan to keep writing about NM and NMB. I covered North Miami without having lived there in over 25 years. Plus, I’m really only about 20 minutes away. It’s not like I moved to Mars. Although, it does feel like a different planet up here.

    2. I don’t intend to stop blogging NE Miami-Dade County. In fact, I feel my mojo coming back as we speak. I’m not done making enemies just yet.

  4. Funny, my family and I left Broward (Hollywood and Pembroke Pines)last year because of the crime and corruption. We lived in an apartment (it was torn down; sick buildings) for a few months in NMB in 1969 when S. FL was paradise, then moved to Highland Lakes until 1990, when we moved to Miami Beach, where crime was rampant.

Yes, we suffered with DWS too when we moved to Broward in 1993 because of the crime and corruption in Dade!

Please vote no on the $800 million school tax increase (bonds) in November. Have you looked at Buddy Nevins’ Broward Beat yet? It’s the complete primer on Broweird, as we call it. We’re in Hillsborough now. The crime etc. isn’t up this far yet.

  5. Stephanie,

I want to add my voice to the chorus of people who wish you well north of the border and thank you for your reporting. You are a true asset and I hope you are proud of your work in a major USA metropolis, you are a stand-out. Best of fun in your new locale and although I bet there are be people who would be happy if you stopped reporting, I am glad to hear you will hopefully still be on the beat!

Now when are you taking up Rodeo?!!
