Déjà vu: Murder in North Miami Beach

Crime scene1Exactly one week ago today, there was a (still unsolved) murder in North Miami Beach.  A male victim was found dead on the ground, the victim of a shooting.

Last night it happened again.

NBC Miami reported this morning that 31-year old Annex Jean, the father of two young children, was found lying in the parking lot of a strip mall located at Northeast 7th Avenue and 167th Street.  His body was discovered by a North Miami Beach Police Officer at about 11:30 PM.

North Miami Beach Police Captain Richard Rand suited up again to address the media and released what little information the police have been able to gather so far.  He noted,  “The officer pulled over to check on the male, and found that he had been shot multiple times.  Rescue responded and pronounced the male deceased on scene.”

The news article wrapped up with the typical tagline, “Anyone with information is asked to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.”

I’m sure the phones have been ringing off the hook.

  1. Very easy to fix ! Send real cops out there. Every department have a few and make them artrst anybody who is loitering, smoking weed, trespassing , or committing any desorderly conduct. Make the cop sto any bicycle committing traffic violations and you will seee the crime hoes down. Of course it wont happen ( political correctness) is in charge ! Nog yo long ago I called nmb for. A punch of guys Acting disorderly while in a party and dispatcher had terrible attitude, at night , a male dispatcher. He stated when they cleared the shooting , stabbing and other crimes they will respond. Terrible attitude ! Anyway , the whole county and country is going down hill. Is out fault that we keep voting for all this liberals !!!

  2. And I am sure there are more to come. This year. Three murders (gun related) and the first police officer shot in our city-ever as I am aware. Too many guns in the wrong hands in NMB and our police department does not seem to be a priority for our council. I see no good reason for this municipality To be an entity other than to operate the police department. People who don’t realize the amount of illegal gun activity are in for a sore surprise. We are the next Miami Gardens.

    1. Karin, do you honestly believe that the PD is the only reason for local government to exist? Have you flushed your toilet lately? Or taken a shower? Your municipality that you say has no good reason to be an entity provides those services. You need to take a step back and think about the services you receive on a regular basis without even thinking about them.

      1. I pay extra for the water.. It’s not free. Is the water cost paid from taxes or from the billing revenue? When you continue to see the violence escalate, you will see my point.

        1. Karin, the sad truth is that those who live in the wealthier sections of NMB, such as Sky Lake and Eastern Shores, are rarely affected by the violence and gang murders going on in the rest of the city. Reading news articles about drive by shootings or young men gunned down in the street is one thing. Having those things happen within blocks, or even yards from your home is a whole different thing.

          1. True, but council is supposed to represent all neighborhoods. And these neighborhoods are in close proximity and sometimes, God help us all, there are innocent bystanders. I was out walking my dog right after shooting happened in alley on my street.

        1. Hey Karin, if you pay attention to the video, your answer to where the crime in NMB originates.

If you really want to curb crime in the long term, lobby Congress and the State legislature to limit welfare assistance to all welfare women who continue to pump out future criminals. The welfare check has taken the place of a father and these welfare kids, listening to the lyrics of the attached video, becomes their role model for their future careers in crime.

    2. Karin “the Sky is Falling” Kimball has had a one track issue ever since she met her first NMB policeman. As she stated herself, the only reason our city exists, in her eyes, is to run a police department.
No matter how many police there are, cirme due to the demographics that exist in NMB and the surrounding cities to the west and south will continue to be the root of our crime. Police cannot be everywhere, nor can our city afford to put one on every corner. Each police officer costs the city in excess of $155,000 per year when pension, car, radio and other benefits are added in.

      1. Police cannot be everywhere, but there is no reason to have only one officer patrolling Washington Park on a Saturday night. Nor is there any reason to have only six officers patrolling all of North Miami Beach on any night. This is the case in NMB. The truth is that former city manager Bonner played a huge part in destroying what was once the best police department in Miami-Dade County. Yes, there have been budget cuts and pension reform issues, but there is no reason for officers to go eight years without a pay raise. The same way there was no reason to strip them of their take home cars only to let all the police vehicles rot in a city lot for years. Do you have any idea how much that power play cost the city? Aside from the loss of all those cars, the city lost veteran officers who were disgusted by all the tactics, as well as the much needed gang unit. I can’t help but wonder how many of the gang-related murders in recent years might have been prevented if the gang unit had been left in tact.

The ever increasing crime rate is the main reason I left North Miami Beach. I know many others who would love to leave but are not in the position to. I was one of the lucky ones who got the hell out of dodge.

The new developments on the horizon will bring in revenue, and NMB will eventually become the thriving city it could have been decades ago. It’s going to take time, though, and I just didn’t have the time to wait for it.

      2. Not sure WTF you are implying about since I met my first policeman. I have no friends that are NMB police and I date one of those from “those demographics.” If you are implying that I have a relationship with one, ugly amd pathetic. My sky may be falling but bodies are falling and so will real estate values. Maybe you just hate cops? If you can assume, then so can I. Some reading that is pertinent for all members of council

      3. And, by the way, that was a really nasty thing you said about Karin. She is no cop groupie. But she is a long time resident of North Miami Beach who knows how important a good police department is to the community. You owe her an apology, but I’m sure none will be forthcoming.

        1. I think you need to re-read my comments to Karin. No where in my words of wisdom did I disparidge her nor insinuate she was having an affair with a police officer. All i did was state that she’s been on a single-track issue that she won’t be satisifed with until the Police Chief parks a squad car in her front swale, complete with NMB’s finest.

As far as not liking the police, again someone is hallucinating on what I stated. All I did is point out that police can’t prevent all crimes and the high cost of adding more police officers. Eventually the money will be there with new development, however, we are still waiting for those projects to come online.

Both of you responded that the Councilmembers who live in the more affluent areas don’t seem to care about crime because they don’t live around it and they aren’t “caring” about the rest of the city. You’re both way off base on that too.

Sorry to hear about Karin’s identity theft, but it happens to affluent people more often than it does to less affluent people and it doesn’t matter where they live. Just sayin’.

          1. Even though most of the time I know who the authors of comments are, I allow everyone to post anonymously if they choose to do so. I understand some people have reasons to keep their identities private, whether due to their jobs or concerns about personal safety. However, some people abuse the privilege by commenting under many different pseudonyms and then verbally attack others on this forum in an attempt to “gang up” on them.

Although I will not reveal your identity, I must advise you that I know who you are. Not only are you being unnecessarily rude to Karin, who has the cojones to use her real name, but you are also being a hypocrite.

I happen to know that you have been known to get on “one track issues,” and constantly harass the mayor, council and anyone who will listen to you kvetch until you get your way.

I also happen to know that you live in Eastern Shores, where you don’t wake up to random gunshots, police search dogs in your yard or search helicopters over your house in the middle of the night.

I never said that council members or residents who live in Eastern Shores don’t “care” about the rest of the city. “Caring” about crime on the other side of the tracks is easy to do. I “care” about the Jews who are being run out of France by Jew-hating Islamists, the Swedes who are being beheaded in their local Ikea, the boys of Afghanistan who are being raped by “devout” Muslim men, and the Christians and Yazidis who are being slaughtered in droves by ISIS. This crap makes me so angry you can’t even begin to possibly imagine!

It’s very easy for me to care. It’s easy for me to “lobby Congress,” as you suggested to Karin, to do something about radical Islam.

It’s also easy for me to go about my business on a daily basis, still “caring,” but knowing that I DON’T HAVE TO WAKE UP TO THE HORRORS THAT THOSE WHO LIVE ACROSS THE POND LIVE WITH ON A DAILY BASIS!

By the same token, when you find a murdered teenager in the alley behind your house, or a man shot up in the street a few blocks away, or another shootout right in front of the police station a couple streets from where you live, when you have to send your child to a school that is basically a war zone, then tell those who live in the heart of gang country that there’s not enough money for police.

The reality is that people who live in the heart of NMB know that gang members roam the streets, day and night, with impunity. They hang out in their parks, in school parking lots, in the alleys and the main thoroughfares. It is a huge problem that you don’t have to live with.

For you to imply that Karin is a “cop groupie” is ridiculous, rude, misogynistic and just plain WRONG.

And if you had the balls that Karin has, you’d use your real name.

            Are we clear?

      4. And, by the way, I was the victim of identity theft last week. The great majority of my credit card use is in our great city. Probably some skimmer on a gas pump. In our great city. It is not just violent crime. Our police officers have to fight this too

  3. For whatever the worth, and for some, worthless…

I went back to read some of these blogs after the 4th murder and comments I made to that blog. Turns out that Steph had already said much of what I did.

Anyway, the single most significant reason an area incorporates into a municipality is the ability to offer its own PD and to better control the PD. No muni has ever formed for the purpose of delivering water to your faucet or to pick up the garbage on your swale. EVERYTHING a muni offers is ancillary to the formation and operation of a PD. If that is true than it seems reasonable that the residents would want the strongest, most effective PD that their money can buy.
