Hey, Chief Lenny! How ’bout them roosting chickens?

chicken in the roadSince February, I’ve been warning the North Miami Mayor and Council that trouble was on the horizon.

Ever since I discovered that Police Chief Leonard Burgess was harboring a fugitive rogue cop in his police department, I predicted it was only a matter of time before one of Officer Jodlyn Antoine’s victims would sue the city.

Well, that day has finally come.

Antoine returned to work full time from his most recent suspension on February 14, 2015.

A scant two months later he screwed up again.

According to a letter dated October 19, 2015 to Chief Lenny from Michael Joseph, Esq., Mr. Gregg J. Swift “intends to file a claim against the City of North Miami Police Department, and their agents and police officers based on injuries received from an unlawful detention and/or an illegal arrest, which occurred on or about April 15, 2015.”

Ouch!

Then again, who didn’t see THIS  coming?

It’s my understanding that Mr. Joseph has already filed a complaint with the appropriate agencies in the State of Florida, and may even file in Federal Court as well.

Galbut Letter excerptI take no pleasure in the fact that Chief Lenny’s chickens have come home to roost.

Much.

Actually, yeah.

This is gonna be big fun.

  1. If anyone is surprised they need to get their head examined. The fact that a dozen women haven’t sued before this is the real wonder. It would be classic if this attorney were to reach out to all of his victims and get them on board for a class action lawsuit against the city for negligent retention.
He should sue the chief and assistant chief personally too. I’d have to gag myself just to make it through roll call without falling over laughing.

Congrats mayor and council. You can’t say you weren’t warned but you chose to bury your head in the sand. Now the taxpayers will pay for your asinine ignorance.

  2. How many times did the City Manager and City Council need to be warned that they were putting the City of North Miami in legal jeopardy by keeping Officer Jodlyn Antoine on the force? It’s the taxpayers’ who fund the city, including any insurance that might be used to settle this law suit if appropriately filed and proven. Those in charge must think the public are a bunch of idiots. As Judge Judy has said,
“And You Ought To Be Ashamed Of Yourself.”
And my favorite: “Do I have stupid written over my forehead?”

What the hell is the matter with the administration of this city?

  3. Chief Lenny’s days are numbered. When it comes to politics everything has to be done at the right moment. He’s been looking for another job elsewhere. Trust me, I know. If he doesn’t go on his own, he will be fired. The rank of chief just goes beyond his capabilities as a leader. He was an okay Major and less than mediocre Assistant Chief in North Miami. The best way to see it is: The day that North Miami finds a true professional City Manager, who is better at being City Manager than Lenny is at being chief, Lenny will be gone. That day is soon coming.
