Interstate 95: Enter at your own risk!

Each yearSouth Florida drivers are infamous for driving badly.  Almost every single day, I get a traffic fatality alert on my phone.

As I assume many other parents do, the minute I receive these traffic alerts, I immediately call or text my adult children to make sure they’re okay.  I don’t rest easy until I hear back from all three of them.

Each year 1As we all know, most traffic accidents are caused by either careless, impaired, intoxicated or just plain stupid drivers.

Each year 3Adweek recently launched a brilliant public service video campaign and filmed a 20 minute period on Interstate 95.  During those 20 minutes, the camera filmed 185 drivers out of 2,151 who were distracted by talking on their cellphones, texting, eating, or something else.

According to Adweek, “Here are the numbers from the experiment: Of the 2,151 total drivers, 185 of them (8.6 percent) were distracted. Of those 185 drivers, 81 percent were talking on the phone; just over 9 percent were texting; more than 6 percent were eating; and more than 3 percent were otherwise distracted.”

Here are a couple of screen shots from the video:

  1. 2 miles east or 2 miles west from I-95 throughout the whole dade county is infested with criminals . Try not to get out from I-95 . Just be careful out there !dont do business with these areas that dont do anything to stop criminal activities !

      1. None of the above. But you are apparently an anarchist who wants to kill cops and let criminals roam free.

In other words, you’re an asshole.

        Thank you for sharing.

  2. MANY cars cut into the express lane when traffic is backed up on 95 regular lanes. People are doing 60mph in the express lanes and regular lanes are not moving. When the go from non-moving traffic to a 60 or 65 mph express lane, they are putting people’s lives at risk and they should get a huge ticket for wreck less endangerment. I hardly ever see troopers enforcing it. They should crack down on it before there is more tragedy

  3. I wonder how they can tell what the person is doing? I cannot see inside the car myself.

Ironically, I see elderly people texting on their cell phones, especially in Aventura. As if they are not already impaired with slower reaction times and such…..

Being a driving professional (my job) traveling close to 300 miles a day in a commercial capacity, I see all sorts of things that should not happen. I wish I could legally put a bull horn with a microphone in the front grill of my vehicle and loudly say “PUT DOWN THAT PHONE AND PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR DRIVING.” However, if I did, they would probably be even more accidents than there are now.

    1. Ever wish Scottie would beam them up for you? It’s gotten so bad out there that I stay off I-95 as much as humanly possible. It’s a scary place.

  4. All I can say is that I’m sure as hell glad that I’ve moved to Ormond Beach.

Although there is rush hour traffic it’s a hell of a lot saner!
