  1. Congrats to these newly promoted officers. BUT, are they hiring more street officers? There are sometimes only 4 on street patrol for the entire city. Did people at the top leave creating vacancies or is the new CoP making the agency more top heavy?

    1. No, it’s not more top heavy. In fact, one Major position was eliminated. There are no vacancies, and I believe the department is hiring more officers. Under the new administration, there will definitely be more officers on the street, where they are needed. Things are most definitely going to change for the better. North Miami residents are finally going to get a top-notch, professional police department!

    1. Chief Eugene decided to appoint both Robert Bage and Neal Cuevas as Assistant Chiefs. Juriga is still one, as well. He eliminated one of the five majors positions.

  2. This is delicious! It’s about time somebody took charge of this out of control department. Thank you Chief of Police Gary Eugene. Neal Cuevas is the absolute best appointment for an Assistant Chief of Police. There is NOBODY on the North Miami police force with more experience! He has been a North Miami police officer for almost 42 years and he has held every rank and position one could think of. Congratulations Neal Cuevas!

    1. I am in the process of writing a story about the two new Assistant Chiefs, both of which were inspired choices. Stay tuned…

You’re absolutely right about Neal Cuevas. He’s finally getting the recognition and respect he deserves. His loyalty, humility, patience, and dedication to the profession has finally paid off. Sometimes the good guys really do win.

  3. Congratulations to Neal Cuevas, Ralph Estrugo, and E Holliant, they deserve it. Neal Cuevas has been there for over 40 years and probably should be chief. Ralph Estrugo has been an exceptionally fine officer and one hell of an outstanding sergeant. Ralph Estrugo should be an assistant chief or even chief. E Holliant also one fine outstandingl officer and one great sergeant. E Holliant, R. Estrugo, and N Cuevas are all highly educated and deserve the promotion they just received. E Holliant is a huge asset able to speak 8 different languages. All three have what it takes to not only run this department, and to make the necessary changes needed to fix the problems caused by previous administrations. All three including chief Eugene are the most qualified to be chief and to clean up the mess. So congratulations and best of luck to all three.

  4. Wow the light at the end of the tunnel is right. Other then Commander Belcher this department has had no competent commanders. And Other then Major Cuevas this department has had no competent majors. Now that Belcher is a major we finally have a major that can get the job done replacing the only other good major–Cuevas. Now that Eugene is chief we finally have a competent chief, and now Cuevas makes the first competent Assistant Chief since Eugene. Also now that Estrugo and Hollant are Commanders we finally have two competent commanders. I think we finally have some competent leaders. Eugene, Cuevas, Belcher, Estrugo, and Hollant, makes up the North Miami Dream Team. The rest should just back their bags because they just lack the knowledge, intellect, experience, and integrity that this group has.
