Clueless in North Miami: Mayoral candidate’s email blast sends heads to desks!

North Miami mayoral candidate Hector Medina sent out a bitchin’ email this morning at 8:18 AM in order “to protest most energetically Mayor Smith’s inappropriate use of city resources for electoral purposes.”

As opposed to “most lethargically” perhaps?

In his email, Mr. Medina complained that the Mayor’s sponsorship of the city’s annual Farm Share food giveaway “is being misrepresented by the city as a philanthropic act on the Mayor’s part, undoubtedly to garner votes for him.”

Medina further ranted that “this is nothing but a covert act of political patronage, and an abuse of office.”

He even went so far as to demand “that all reference to Smith Joseph as the benefactor, and champion of the needy, be removed from all city venues. Furthermore, this event should be postponed until after the elections.”

Oh, dear.

Hate to break it to you, Hector, but…

For one thing, the Farm Share food giveaway, which is sponsored by farmshare.org, is scheduled by the non-profit organization in North Miami and other cities all over Florida.  One does not simply “postpone” the event at a moment’s notice.

Or on a whim.

For another, these events are always sponsored by an elected official.  For example, State Representative Barbara Watson held one on October 8, 2016, and State Senator Daphne Campbell sponsored a Farm Share event last January.

Local elected officials sponsor all municipal events, including Farm Share food giveaways.  The one held on April 16, 2014 was sponsored by then-North Miami Vice Mayor Philippe Bien-Aime, and Councilman Alix Desulme sponsored his Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway for North Miami District 4 Residents in 2015.  Last year’s Farm Share event was sponsored by Mayor Smith Joseph.

In other words, Hector Medina’s misguided complaint that this year’s event “is being misrepresented by the city as a philanthropic act on the Mayor’s part, undoubtedly to garner votes for him” is ridiculous.

Furthermore, Medina’s “demand that all reference to Smith Joseph as the benefactor, and champion of the needy, be removed from all city venues” is nothing more than a blatant, not to mention lame, attempt to smear the Mayor in the upcoming election.

Here’s a novel idea, folks.  If you’re serious about running for mayor of North Miami, try addressing the issues and having a platform on which to run.  Stop wasting your time on pointless rants which only prove how unclear you are on the concept of how government works.

Just saying.

Clueless nan North Miami: eksplozyon imel kandida majistra-a pran nan voye tèt biwo!

Oh, mwen renmen anpil.

Rayi yo kraze li nou la a, Hector, men …

Youn pa tou senpleman “ranvwaye” evènman an nan yon ti moman an.

Oswa sou yon kapris.

Pou yon lòt, evènman sa yo yo toujou patwone pa yon ofisyèl eli yo. Pou egzanp, Reprezantan Eta Barbara Watson fèt yon sèl sou li a, 8 oktòb 2016, ak Eta Senatè Daphne Campbell patwone yon evènman Farm pataje janvye pase a.

  1. You put Medina in his place so very nicely, Steph! I hope he keeps your article close by for easy reference – he’ll need it. Small-minded politicians often reveal their ineptitude by focusing on the most trivial insignificant nonsense – especially if they did nothing of distinction while in office. A year ago, I was indirectly approached by a more devious elected official to do a similar kind of “hit piece” that had no merit in my blog about another elected official. According to the underhanded official the terrible offense this person had committed was using the taxpayer-funded community newsletter to campaign [not so] and also for using a more flattering slightly altered photo. As you can probably guess, I declined the opportunity to take part in this ridiculous shenanigan.

    1. I get a lot of “suggestions” from people who want me to write about things that they’re pissed off about. Some of their complaints are legitimate and blog-worthy. Some are just plain silly and self-serving. Can’t blame them for trying, though. Unlike reporters who have to answer to their editors, bloggers like us have the luxury of publishing anything we want, providing that we do so responsibly (and legally).

Neither of us get paid for what we do, and yet we’re both constantly criticized and falsely accused of being in the pockets of politicians. Good thing we always have our Big Girl Pants on!

You do a great job. I hope the residents of SIB appreciate your efforts!

      1. Thank you! Though we bloggers don’t get paid there is special satisfaction in being able to have a positive impact on the community. There’s nothing like reporting the truth about a candidate and backing it up with solid documentation, something you do so well. You know you’ve done a great job when your detractors make up false accusations about you. They hate when we uncover the truth about them. As for my being appreciated – that depends on who you talk to…LOL!!!
