The North Miami Beach City Commission has scheduled a Special Meeting tonight to vote on the settlement of two lawsuits.

The first one was filed last December by former NMBPD Sergeant Karl Anderson, who was forced to retire early due to the horrific treatment he endured at the hands of EX-City Manager Arthur “Duke” Sorey’s pet DEI hire, the EX-Police Chief Harvette Smith.

The second lawsuit was filed by Duke in July of 2023 after he was appropriately fired WITH CAUSE because his feelings were hurt.

The important thing to keep in mind is that the City of North Miami Beach would not have had to deal with the loss of a professional and highly respected law enforcement officer if it hadn’t been for Duke Sorey, a totally unprofessional, lowlife bottom feeder who should never have been hired in the first place.

Sergeant Anderson’s life and career were destroyed by the scumbag Duke Sorey, and he needs to be held accountable for the havoc he wreaked on the entire City and its residents.

Two years ago, the incompetent, corrupt North Miami Beach EX-City Manager Arthur “Duke” Sorey III was finally fired.

But, like the malignant tumor that he is, he continued to destroy the host that kept him alive and growing during the previous two years that he ran the city into the ground and nearly into bankruptcy.

Despite Duke Sorey’s long list of fiscally irresponsible and blatantly illegal deeds, he was not fired for cause initially at the March 21, 2023 Commission Meeting.  However, at the very next Meeting held on April 18, 2023, Commissioner Jay Chernoff rescinded his previous vote to fire him without cause — and then making a motion to fire that useless piece of human garbage FOR CAUSE!

As expected, Duke sued the City of North Miami Beach, hilariously claiming that he “as a valuable asset to the City and he consistently sought to improve the community,” and that “Throughout his tenure as City Manager, Sorey refused to engage in unauthorized and inappropriate conduct when requested by City personnel, and Sorey reported such misconduct to other City officials.”

Duke also falsely touted his “refusal to violate the City’s Charter, and notwithstanding Sorey’s excellent record and demonstrated commitment to the City and the community.”

Now that we hurt ourselves laughing down memory lane, we regret to inform you that instead of vigorously defending the best interests of the residents of North Miami Beach against this frivolous lawsuit, the attorneys representing the City, Lydecker LLP, unilaterally decided to cut their losses and “reward” Duke by entering into a settlement of an “undisclosed [ahem] amount.”

The moral of the story is that no matter how corrupt public officials are, even if they’re fired for cause they can still get a big payday if they file a lawsuit.

Or, as in the case of EX-Police Chief Harvette Smith, they can pilfer at least that much “free” money by crying “racism” and merely threatening a lawsuit.

On top of the millions of dollars North Miami Beach taxpayers spent on, for, and by Arthur “Duke” Sorey III during his two year corrupt reign of terror as the City Manager, he now wants to “legally” steal even more of your hard-earned tax dollars.

We’d love to report that North Miami Beach is now rid of the last vestiges of corruption from the dark days of Duke Sorey and his partner in crime, EX-City “Attorney” Hans Ottinot, but sadly that’s not the case.

An entirely new era of organized crime began on November 5, 2024 when the Demonic Michael Joseph was “elected” as mayor, and any chance of good governance was permanently laid to rest.

But that’s another story that even we are too disgusted to give a crap about at this point.

What we do care about is making sure the taxpaying residents of North Miami Beach don’t get taken to the cleaners for even one more penny than Duke Sorey already stole from them.  NMB residents must urge their Commissioners to VOTE NO TO SETTLING DUKE SOREY’S LAWSUIT!

That case should go to trial.  Let a jury hear all the gory details about how Duke Sorey destroyed an entire city including, and especially, its once award-winning Police Department that is now in shambles.  Once the truth is out, no sane juror could possibly decide in his favor.

We also greatly care about Sergeant Karl Anderson’s being made whole again and rewarded all the money he lost and more for his his pain and suffering at the hand of the despicable Duke Sorey.  We have all the receipts on how it went down, and we will spill the tea in a blog later today.

Regardless of the amount of the settlement, it won’t be enough.  It will never be enough!

However, if Sergeant Anderson is satisfied with the offer, far be it from us to advise against it.

And so, we are urging residents to tell the City Commission immediately vote to settle Karl Anderson’s lawsuit!  It should be unanimous.
