North Miami Beach Mayor Mike “Michael” Joseph is a legend in his own mind.

His shameless corruption is a legend in all of South Florida and beyond.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock since last November, you already know that Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick was indicted for allegedly stealing over five million dollars in FEMA and laundering the money to fund her political campaign.

The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ethics also launched an investigation of this alleged crime, and much to our surprise, it turns out that none other than the demonic Mayor of North Miami Beach, Mike “Michael” Joseph and his long time BFF, Hector Roos, were also named in the Committee’s report.

The same day we received the report by an anonymous tipster, we also received a document entitled, “WHAT IS MAYOR MICHAEL JOSEPH HIDING?”

As much as we’ve enjoyed our “retirement” from blogging, this was just too good to ignore.  We will start the popcorn popping while you ponder that very question.

WHAT IS MAYOR MICHAEL JOSEPH HIDING?

What We Know

• Mayor Michael Joseph and his close personal friend Hector Roos is involved in the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ethics Investigation of Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick for stealing $5 million in government funds.
• Mayor Joseph refused to comply with multiple subpoenas, did not provide testimony or documents, and did not cooperate with the Committee.
• Along with Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick’s husband, Mayor Joseph served as President and Vice President, respectively, of Progressive People Inc., a Florida Not for Profit Corporation (PPI), that raised and transferred large sums of money in potential violation of state and federal laws.
• The Corporation, which Mayor Joseph incorporated, was not registered as a political committee, yet received and transferred substantial funds (over $666,000 alone within the 2022 election cycle) to Truth & Justice Inc., another Florida Not for Profit Corporation (T&J).  Although the Articles of Incorporation of Michael Joseph’s Progressive People Inc. stated “[n]o substantial part of the activities of the organization shall intervene in any political campaign on behalf of any candidate for public office,” solicitation letters from T&J to PPI (Michael Joseph’s Corporation) stated that it “was ‘registered in the state of Florida as a 501(c)(4) which enables [it] to receive donations’ and claimed that the requested funds were to ‘help with [T&J’s] voter education programs’ and/or a ‘voter awareness project reaching the underserved in South Florida.'”

 What We Don’t Know

• Did Mayor Joseph violate campaign finance law in support of Cherfilius-McCormick?
• Did Joseph abuse his power to get projects associated with himself and his friend Hector Roos funded?
• How did Joseph personally benefit – financially or politically – from any of the community project funding requests he helped promote?

Why It Matters

These unresolved questions matter because Michael Joseph is both the Mayor of the City of North Miami Beach and a licensed Florida attorney—roles that carry heightened ethical and fiduciary obligations. As mayor, he holds the city’s highest elected office and is entrusted with maintaining public confidence in government. As an attorney, he is bound by professional standards requiring honesty, respect for legal process, and cooperation with lawful investigations. His refusal to cooperate with a congressional ethics investigation leaves unresolved whether political influence or private interests improperly affected federal funding decisions, depriving the public of the clarity and accountability those positions demand.
