I almost fell off my chair yesterday when the following story popped up in my Google Alerts for “North Miami:”
North Miami’s Police Chief arrested for domestic violence

North Miami Police Chief Kevin Joe Sheppard was arrested Oct. 14 by the Miami Police Department on suspicion of domestic violence.
According to a press release from the Miami Police Department, Sheppard was taken into custody after his one-time girlfriend reported her observable injuries, including a blow to her forehead, were caused by Sheppard after the two argued. Sheppard was transported to and booked into the Ottawa County Jail.
“The victim reported that she had been in a dating relationship with Sheppard for several months and had recently attempted to end the relationship. The victim reported that she and Sheppard had a verbal argument that escalated into Sheppard pushing her down, which caused her to hit her head on a table corner, causing visible injuries,” the press release states.
Sheppard was taken into custody, without incident, and bond was set at $5,000 per Ottawa County District Court Judge Bill Culver. An emergency protective order was granted and signed by Culver.
My first thought was “WTF?”
My second thought was, “Who the hell is Kevin Joe Sheppard?”
Seeing as how the Police Chief of North Miami, FLORIDA, is Marc Elias, I was a tad confused. No one in North Miami ever heard of Kevin Joe Sheppard. Thinking the reporter was a real ditz, I quickly blasted the following email off to her:
Dear Ms. Stotts,
Re your article (http://www.miamiok.com/news/article_03b6534a-4d75-5ddc-95d3-94f316b40416.html?success=1), I’m not sure where you got your information, but the Police Chief of North Miami, Florida is NOT Kevin Joe Sheppard, nor has our Chief been arrested for anything! You need to fix this immediately!

I know that now. DUH!
There outta be a law that a city can only be named one time and one time only, right? I mean, seriously, WTF IS THAT?
Okay, so I might be a ditz, but I bet you didn’t have any clue that there was a North Miami in Oklahoma, either.
The good news is that the Police Chief of the REAL North Miami did not get arrested for domestic violence. Are we clear on that?
The even better news is that ditziness is not contagious.

No but there was that little matter of 2 allegations of sexual harassment and battery when he was the Chief in Fl City. He got fired but no worries we hired him. There’s no honor among thieves or criminals. So he fit right in over here in good old North Miami, Fl.
At least in Oklahoma they arrest people for crimes even if they’re a police chief. In North Miami Florida they PROMOTE you to a chief if you’re accused of a crime. Now THAT’S a reason to ask “wtf???”
