As reported by Channel 7, Channel 6 and the Miami Herald, a veteran member of the North Miami Beach Police Department was shot while serving a search warrant to a private residence early this morning. The NMB SWAT team is currently surrounding the area.
The home where the warrant was being served is located at 16033 NE 8th Avenue, and the suspected shooter is believed to be inside the home.
Miami-Dade County property records show that the owner of the property is Ivylyn Beverly Cassar, but it is unknown who currently occupies the residence.
No further information is available at this time. I will update this story as news becomes available.
UPDATE: Channel 7 is reporting that the officer was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Center and is in stable condition. Two suspects, one male and one female, are in custody.
SECOND UPDATE: The police officer has been identified as Lino Diaz, as reported by the Miami Herald.
