As fate (or luck) would have it, a tip just fell in my lap and it was too good not to share.  It seems that yesterday’s Village Idiot of the Day is not your ordinary idiot.  North Bay Village commissioner Dr. Richard Chervony has also had the misfortune of being in the crosshairs of the local blogger.  (Gee, does that sounds familiar?)

Bad move, dude!  By now every public official should know that pissing off a blogger may be hazardous to your health.  Or, at least, to your reputation.  If you run for office and you have any dirty laundry, prepare to have it aired.  Very publicly.

Kevin Vericker, the blogger for North Bay Village Reality Based Community, referred to the commish in his January 27, 2011 column as ‘The Lewd and Lascivious “DR” Richard Chervony.’  I, of course, was intrigued.  So I dug a little deeper.  And whaddaya know?  The Village Idiot has an arrest record in Miami-Dade County for “L & L Behavior,” a/k/a Lewd & Lascivious.

Kinda makes your skin crawl, eh?  I don’t even want to imagine the possibilities.

Chervony was arrested on November 12, 1987, and the case was closed on March 15, 1988 in a disposition of “NOLLE PROS-COMP PTI.”  According to WikiAnswers.com, this simply means that the case most likely wasn’t prosecuted if the defendant completed a pre-trial intervention/diversion program.

That’s not a not-guilty plea, folks.  Yeah, wink-wink.  You know what that means.

As small a municipality as it is, North Bay Village is no stranger to controversy.  In addition to strip club woes and police union headaches (also sound familiar?), under a threat of recall the former mayor resigned.  Instead of holding a city wide election to replace her, dripping with sarcasm (my favorite form of communication), Vericker wrote, “In a totally unrehearsed and completely transparent process,” the commission merely appointed her replacement with a sitting commissioner, and then appointed Chervony to the empty seat.

The blogger, Kevin Vericker, had also applied to be appointed, but his request was denied after the newly promoted vice mayor claimed that Vericker’s application contained the “innuendo” that “there is grave concern over apparent ties on the commission to the developer of the proposed adult entertainment complex.”

Folks, I really can’t make this stuff up.

Vericker ended his critique of that meeting by stating:

“But for now, I will leave you with one of the many Richard Chervony emails I have received over the last year. This one dated October 17, 2010 was sent to me when I called him out on his use of the title “Dr.” and “MD” even though he is not and never has been a licensed physician. All misspellings are his and the reference to “lude” is a misspelling of the word “lewd”.

Dear Miss Manner:

It is general social etiquette to name the full name so kinldy when referring to me as lascivious Richard Chervony, kindly include “THE LUDE”.

Yes, folks. This is the very same “DR” Richard Chervony, North Bay Village Commissioner, who decided it was his business to introduce a Resolution to stop development in North Miami Beach.  I’d say Chervony would have done well to stay out of the spotlight … and under the radar of yet another blogger’s crosshairs.

Never mind Idiot of the Day.  Richard Chervony deserves nothing less than Idiot of the Month.

I also nominate him for a much coveted 2013 Darwin Award.
