Not just no. HELL NO!

Hell-No-KittySome folks have a really hard time when they’re told they can’t get what they want.  Reactions to the word “no” can range anywhere from an out and out temper tantrum to passive aggressive retaliation to begging and pleading.  None are particularly becoming.

Obviously, the most adult way to respond to being told “no” is to simply accept the answer and walk away.  But not everyone behaves like an adult.

The owners of the North Miami Beach strip club known as Black Diamonds apparently don’t like “no” for an answer.  Instead of acceptance, they’re responding by attempting to wear down their opponents, in this case the City Council.

This Tuesday will be the third time Black Diamonds’ request for extended business hours until 6:00 AM will be on the City Council Agenda.

Their first try was on November 19, 2013, when they were so confident that the Council would approve their request, they had already started advertising a 6:00 AM closing on both the Black Diamonds website and Facebook page.  In fact, as you can see by this screen shot taken this evening, they’re STILL advertising it on their website!

Black Diamonds’ first attempt to extend its business hours ended in its withdrawing its request when the Mayor asked the legal department to determine whether Black Diamonds was to be considered a new business.

This issue was again placed on the Agenda for the meeting scheduled on December 3, 2013, but pulled before the meeting started.  It’s commonly believed that Black Diamonds rescinded its request because the owners knew it didn’t have the votes to pass.

Obviously believing that the third time’s the charm, Black Diamonds is coming back to request extended business hours again.

ARE THEY FREAKING KIDDING OR WHAT?

Either they are incredibly nuts or …

They now believe they have the votes.

I have somewhat of an inkling how each of the North Miami Beach City Council members feel about this issue.  Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past month, you probably do, too. Since I don’t have a crystal ball, I won’t even venture a guess how each of them will vote.  But I’m fairly confident that unless its lobbyists and attorneys know something that I don’t, odds are it won’t be in favor of Black Diamonds.

Unfortunately, in the world of politics, nothing is a sure thing.

As I noted in The “Ethics” of Politics, even the most honest and ethical of people are capable of being corrupted once elected to office.  I’m not saying that the North Miami Beach City Council members are corrupt (with the possible lone exception of L’il Frantzie P, of course).  Far from it!  I still think that six of them on that dais are looking out for the best interest of the residents of our city.

At least I hope they keep those best interests in mind when it’s time to vote for or against extending the business hours of Black Diamonds.  If they aren’t already, they should be aware that the people who put them in office want them to vote NO.

hell no

This Council should also be reminded exactly who put them in office.

It wasn’t the lobbyists.

It wasn’t the attorneys.

It certainly wasn’t the owners of Black Diamonds.

The citizens of North Miami Beach put them in office by the power of our vote.

The citizens of North Miami Beach have made it very clear where they stand on strip clubs in general, and letting them stay open until 6:00 AM in particular.

The citizens of North Miami Beach will remember how this Council votes on Tuesday night when the next election rolls around.

Just saying.

    1. The person or entity who is making the request. Anyone can request anything to be put on the agenda. I think that requests must be approved by city attorney and/or city manager, and possibly council, but not sure about that.

  1. well Stephanie you should check out the recent north miami meeting where the developer folks came back to ask for the unclean fill to NOT be removed from biscayne landing! After the city council had ordered them too at the last meeting! I think only Scott Galvin did not forget that they already had said NO! It was a weird moment to see it BACK on the agenda!

As to the stripclub, I dont even like to say the word, who in their right mind would allow those kind of people walking around at 6am when children are going to school (well maybe the same kind of people that go to those type of places anyway?) and why they even need to stay open until 4am is beyond me… but I am fortunate to not “run with the crowd” of those kinds of people who go to these places (And my heart goes out to the women who work there.). I wish you luck getting them away from your city, it would do us all well in north dade. Happy Holidays.
