And then there’s Myron

happy-canada-dayNo mention of criminal courtroom antics would be complete without dishing the latest about the FELONY trial of the EX-mayor of North Miami Beach, Myron Rosner.  As I reported in More Fun with Myron! on October 7, 2013, a trial hearing had been set for January 27, 2014.  Well, that’s old news now because on November 15, 2013, according to the docket, it would appear that Myron’s CRIMINAL laywer Benedict P. Kuehne advised him to take a plea deal as noted by the motion and plea/sounding set for January 17, 2014 at 2:00 PM.

Yes, you read that right!  The Great Ben Kuehne had his client cop a plea instead of taking his chances at a trial.  I guess the evidence against Myron spoke for itself.  If that’s the case, how much do you love this?

Kuehne finally met his match when he came up against the super star investigative team of Detective Luis Rodriguez of the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Public Corruption Investigations Bureau and, the Miami-Dade County Commission on Ethics Investigators Kennedy Rosario and Breno Penichet.

Can’t win ’em all, Ben, but I got you a souvenir tee shirt as a consolation prize:

KUEHNE TEEWear it proudly!

And just so she doesn’t feel left out, I also got a little trial memento for Miesha Darrough, the recently assigned prosecutor on the case who replaced Breezye Telfair.  Here ya go, sweetie:

PROSECUTOR TEEHope it fits.

Unfortunately for the seekers of justice, Detective Luis Rodriguez left the Miami-Dade Police Department when the Public Corruption Unit was all but disbanded, in late July.  I heard he got a job with CNN Latino, still working to uncover corruption on a nightly show called “Prohibido Callarse.”  Ethics Commission Investigator Kennedy Rosario retired earlier this year and is sorely missed by those of us who care about bringing down political dirtbags.  I’m not sure if Investigator Breno Penichet is still with the COE, but if he is, good luck with that.

In any event, we’ll all have to wait until after the New Year to see what kind of plea deal Myron will be cutting with Kathy’s crew of sharpshooting prosecutors.  If Faustin Denis, Jr. got such a sweetheart deal for felony racketeering even without the likes of Big Ben on his defense team, I imagine the penalty for Myron’s silly little third degree felony of grand theft won’t break the bank.  I also imagine that Myron will get probation instead of three hots and a cot in the Big House.  His wife, CIRCUIT COURT JUDGE SARAH ZABEL, must be thrilled to be able to keep him home with her.  I’m sure she can hardly contain her joy.

While a plea deal is better than a conviction in the field of criminal law, for a hot shot attorney like Ben Kuehne, it’s gotta be a humiliating loss.

Oh, darn.
