NMPD: No good deed goes unpunished! (UPDATED 3X)

Get the popcorn ready!

Yet another lawsuit was filed as a result of the July 18, 2016 shooting of an unarmed black man by the questionably hired North Miami Police Officer Jonathan Aledda.

Who didn’t see this coming?

On April 12, 2018, attorneys Michael A. Pizzi and Benedict P. Kuehne filed a Complaint and Demand for Jury Trial in the 11th Judicial Circuit Court against the City of North Miami, Larry Juriga and Larry Spring, on behalf of Assistant Chief Neal Cuevas, who was wrongfully retaliated against for blowing the whistle on corruption in the North Miami Police Department.

As we have been contending all along, this new lawsuit alleges that city officials purposefully engaged in punishing Cuevas for “having the integrity to disclose acts of illegality, misconduct, and malfeasance” in the aftermath of the shooting when then-assistant chief Larry Juriga conspired with several officers and city officials to frame Commander Emile Hollant in order to protect Aledda.

By engineering a series of events, including the launching of “an internal affairs investigation to create the veneer that Hollant was guilty” (see Hollant v. City of North Miami, et. al., Plaintiff’s Response in Opposition to Defendant’s Motion to Dismiss), Larry Juriga was able to convince City Manager Larry Spring to fire his predecessor and appoint him as chief.  Once he became the NMPD’s top cop, Juriga’s first order of business was to demote Assistant Chief Neal Cuevas three ranks, and reward his fellow corrupt cops with promotions for helping him achieve his goal.

Jonathan Aledda was eventually arrested and charged for attempted manslaughter (a felony) and culpable negligence (a misdemeanor) on April 12, 2017.  A month later, the State Attorney’s Office doubled those charges, two for each of his victims, Charles Kinsey and Arnaldo Rios.  In addition to lawsuits filed by the two victims, Chief Gary Eugene and Commander Emile Hollant are also suing the city.

This newest complaint filed by Assistant Chief Neal Cuevas is the fifth lawsuit against the City of North Miami and an assortment of co-Defendants, including Larry Juriga, Larry Spring, Councilman Scott Galvin, and then-Sergeant Diana Roman, who was promoted for her role in manufacturing evidence against Commander Hollant during her Internal Affairs investigation.

Yeah, it’s a royal clusterfluffle.

Michael A. Pizzi will be holding a press conference in his office this morning at 11:00 at his Miami Lakes office to discuss the details of this case.

Ready, set, POP!

  1. I think i will be getting popcorn, really. Punishing the innocent is wrong. But,when a Eagle eye, like Assistant Chief,YES ASSISTANT CHIEF Neal Cuevas saw the wrong,he should not be punished.Cuevas should not be punished. He did his job, with 44 years on the force , we know what’s right from wrong.

  2. is this bond going to benefit the city deteriorating structures, or is it go handle the numerous lawsuits filed due to the incompetence of this administration.
why is curves not suing for discrimination, his case could not be more crystal clear.
when are we going to know the truth of what really happen

  3. One wonders what more can be said. City Manager Larry Spring and Chief of Police Larry Juriga are responsible for one law suit after another. Obviously, IT IS TIME FOR BOTH OF THEM TO GO!!!! They are responsible for destroying the lives of a number of good and decent individuals. What is the matter with the N Miami city council? They are just too busy raking in the tens of thousands of dollars they are paid. So pathetic!

  4. Message to “Floridania Park:” Nice try, Joey Kissel!

Maybe you shouldn’t have used the police department’s IP address.

Jeez, for a cop, you sure are a moron.
