Barry University Professor: “This is a chance for the Democratic Party to purge Daphne Campbell.”

Once again, State Senator Daphne Campbell made the news.

And once again, she made a damn fool of herself.

At a candidates forum this morning in North Miami Beach, the controversial, and questionably sane, Daphne Campbell called the police on a reporter who dared to ask her questions.

The president of the Social Citizens of Southeast Florida, which hosted the event at Duffy’s, was “shocked” to see a police officer show up at the restaurant.  The officer declined to even give his name to the Herald reporter.  Who could blame him?  He was probably annoyed at having to respond to such a frivolous call in the first place.

Daphne, as usual, thought nothing of wasting the resources of North Miami Beach taxpayers for the sole purpose of causing a scene.

Surely, the residents of District 38 have to be sick and tired of Daphne Campbell after nearly eight years of the shame and embarrassment she has inflicted on her beleaguered constituency.

The most recent Daphne scandal, as exposed by the Miami Herald, is that she doesn’t even live in the district she represents.

Reporters Sarah Blaskey (the one Daphne called the police on today) and David Smiley revealed that there are “at least four addresses she’s listed over the last six years after a statewide redrawing of House districts placed her own home outside the boundaries and forced her into a series of temporary residences.  The extent to which she has actually lived at any of them is questionable.”

Worse, the article reported, “Not only has she spent the entirety of her time in the Florida Senate living somewhere other than the duplex where she was registered to vote, but she also voted twice from that address during her 2016 campaign in apparent violation of state law.”

But that’s not even the least of Daphne Campbell’s legal and ethical problems.

Today’s Miami Herald article continued, “This isn’t the first time Campbell has called police on a reporter. RISE NEWS published an article Thursday explaining that Campbell had called police on publisher Rich Robinson outside a Miami Shores Village Council meeting in May. A police report posted to the publication’s website states that Campbell explained to an officer that she recognized Robinson as the RISE reporter who documented text messages she sent to a Florida Power & Light lobbyist after Hurricane Irma in order to get the power turned on at her home for her “sick mom.” (Campbell’s real mother died in 1996.)”

As we reported last year, Rise News discovered that she abused her position as a State Senator by “using her connections to a Florida Power & Light lobbyist to try to get power restored at her house and her sister’s home before the rest of Miami’s residents” after Hurricane Irma, as reported by the Miami New Times.  She then lied about it and accused the Rise News reporter of stealing her phone after she showed him her texts to the FPL lobbyist.

VotersOpinion has also documented Daphne Campbell’s record of crazy over the years, including her absentee ballot fraud, nursing home violations which resulted in a rape and four deaths, and medicaid fraud.  She has been slapped with $145,000.00 in federal tax liens, has had ten foreclosures filed against her properties, and is prone to grossly inappropriate behavior, both on the House floor and when dealing with the media.

Today’s incident just adds to the growing list of reasons why this woman is unfit to serve in public office.

Ever.

Daphne Campbell won her re-election in 2016 by only getting 31.01% of the total vote out of a crowded field of six contenders.  Biscayne Times reporter Erik Bojnansky explained, “In the 2016 primary race, Campbell garnered 9017 votes, but her Democratic opponents’ combined votes far outstripped hers.  All together, 20,061 people voted against Campbell.”

Since there are no runoff elections in Florida legislative races, Daphne did not win by a majority – more than 50% – of the ballots cast, but only because she got more votes than the other five candidates.

Her strongest opponent, Jason Pizzo, won 23.69%, or 6,888 votes.  He’s challenging her again.  Without additional candidates to muddy the race, Pizzo has a good shot at finally ousting the so-called Democrat from the State Senate.

We say “so-called,” because in 2016 Daphne Campbell was not endorsed President Obama or the Florida Democratic Party.  In fact, Daphne was the only Democrat running for state office that year that the President did not endorse!

Daphne Campbell was, however, endorsed by Florida Family Action and the Christian Coalition, both of which are staunch opponents of gay marriage.  She also voted against repealing Florida’s ban on gay adoption.  She was also endorsed by Personhood Florida and Florida Right to Life, both of which are staunch opponents of abortion.

The Biscayne Times quoted Barry University political science professor Sean Foreman, who said it best, “We know she has hardcore supporters who follow her to the end, even with all the controversy.  But that said, this is a chance for the Democratic Party to purge Daphne Campbell.”

If you’re a conservative, you might be tempted to vote for her based on the fact that she’s really a Republican disguised as a Democrat.

Do not make that mistake!  PLEASE!

We strongly advise against voting for her, regardless of party.

The good news is that all registered voters, not just Democrats, in Senate District 38 can cast a ballot on August 28, 2018.

Biscayne Times reporter Erik Bojnansky explained, “Technically, the upcoming match between Campbell and Pizzo is a Democratic Party primary.  Under normal circumstances in Florida’s closed primary system, voters choose among candidates in their own party; they can’t vote across party lines. But the rules change when the only candidates running are in the same party.  Since both Campbell and Pizzo are running as Democrats, all 249,871 voters in Disrict 38 — 137,370 Democrats, 37,583 Republicans, and 74,918 affiliated with no party or a party other than Democrat or Republican — can cast ballots on August 28.”

So there you have it, folks.  All of you Democrats, Republicans, Independents have the chance in a lifetime to finally get rid of Daphne Campbell for once and for all.

More importantly, however, this is your chance to elect a truly qualified State Senator to represent you in Tallahassee – Jason Pizzo.

Stay tuned for more details on why we believe Mr. Pizzo deserves your vote.

In the meantime, aside from the literally dozens of endorsements Jason Pizzo has received from elected officials and really important organizations around Miami-Dade County and the State of Florida …

VotersOpinion officially endorses JASON PIZZO FOR SENATE DISTRICT 38!

YAY!

  1. What I was surprised with in the Miami Herald article was that the Miami Dade Democratic Party asked Fernandez Rundle to resign last year. You are right about the broken clock.

  2. Just a quick comment regarding the “not living where you represent” concept…doesn’t North Miami Mayor Joseph not live in North Miami? Maybe it’s not a pre-req. but still shady, if indeed it’s true.
