PRESS RELEASE FROM NORTH MIAMI BEACH MAYOR ANTHONY DEFILLIPO

June 23, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NORTH MIAMI BEACH RESIDENT MUBARAK KAZAN’S CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATED BY CITY ADMINISTRATION

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, North Miami Beach resident Mubarak Kazan was forced to leave a City Commission meeting by City Manager Arthur Sorey under the pretext that his recording device was a “security issue.”

Mr. Kazan is a long-time resident and activist, who holds public officials accountable for their actions, including the fiscal mismanagement being perpetrated by the current administration.

Mr. Kazan criticized the City Manager during public comment, who in turn, retaliated by having the Police Chief and four officers prevent him from attending the City Commission meeting.

This egregious incident was just the culmination of a multitude of questionable actions by the City Manager since April of 2021, which I will enumerate at today’s press conference.

LOCATION:    North Miami Beach City Hall, 17011 NE 19 Avenue, North Miami Beach, Florida 33162

TIME:             4:00 PM

I will also be taking questions by the media.

    1. You and everyone else! This criminal enterprise needs to be exposed and expelled from NMB!

  1. I just saw this. Where can I find video of the press conference?
After what has been done to Barbara, Tony, and Kazan, I can only imagine they will go after other residents of the city. Does this mean of you publicly endorse other candidates, they will punish you by sending the police?

  2. Glenna Milberg was asking damning questions like she doesn’t believe anything. She even asked about the relationship of you to the City. Mubarek even said he has had negative stuff written by you about him, but said who else exposes corruption that no one else is willing to step up. When Tony got short with her, she left the area and let her cameraman finish the News Conference. No wonder the City doesn’t get exposure from the mainstream media about all the corruption. At least Sheldon Fox from WSVN tied the expulsion to the complaint made during public comment about the rampant corruption going on. I also said to Sheldon after it was over that Mubarek has been recording for about the 15 years I have been attending meetings.

    1. Glenna Milberg falsely accused Kazan of working for VotersOpinion. It seems she got that impression because I had published photos taken by Kazan over the years of public events, such as swearing in ceremonies of police chiefs and other officials. She obviously doesn’t understand the dynamic of friendships and alliances that have been formed in the City of North Miami Beach over the decades and automatically assumed that Kazan “wrote” for my website.

For the record, I do not make any money whatsoever for my website or my blogs. In fact, I spend literally thousands of dollars a year to maintain VotersOpinion out of my own pocket, including the cost of my website, a website security service, public records requests, etc. In fact, I refuse to be paid for my opinion lest I be accused of being in the pocket of any politician. Many have tried over the years to make such false accusations, but that only proves they don’t know me and they don’t understand that I do this as a public service so the residents of North Miami Beach and other cities know what their government officials are doing with their hard earned tax dollars. Period.

The haters can hate all they want, but I will not stop doing what I do to ensure a transparent and accountable local government.

  3. It’s pretty frightening to see this unfold right in front of us. The lies the manager told to cover up his unprofessional leadership is astounding. And I’m really worried that we have a new chief who didn’t act when she thought there was an explosive device at the meeting. I don’t remember any of this behavior coming from past managers and certainly not our last chief, who always sounded professional and competent when interviewed on TV. I expect this behavior from some of our commissioners, but not those in highly paid positions.

  4. In regards to “Civil Rights violated by City Administration, one of our (BHI) Town Citizens was previously ordered by a Town Mayor to be removed from the Chambers, and escorted back to her home by the (BHI) Police? This was all allegedly due to her stating Council was spending too much of (BHI) Taxpayer’s money on “change orders’, instead of “replacing” this alleged “dangerous” Broad Causeway Island Bridge back in 2008?

Now on Thursday (06-30-2022), this same (BHI) Town Citizen has been “warning” both (BHI) Council and Town Residents that there is no mention by the Developers of Bay Harbor Islands receiving “COMPENSATION,” when this particular North Miami property (the “White House Inn”) is allegedly being demolished, and replaced with (1). a 15 story High-rise Condo (2). starting at $4M in North Miami (3). with underground parking, (4). tremendous “flooding,” and (5). where the Town of Bay Harbor Islands owns the “RIGHTS” to the Broad Causeway Island Bridge, and “easements” in front of this particular building?
