World’s Highest Paid Clown

Yes, we know.  We owe you a Farewell to Duke blog.  And we promise it’s coming.

We didn’t get much sleep last night after North Miami Beach City Manager Arthur “Duke” Sorey was finally fired.

And today, unlike the dozens of useless Friends & Family employees that are living off the tax-paying residents like the voracious blood-sucking leeches they are, this blogger has an actual job that required her attention today.

But, we promise we’ll get out the March 21, 2023 Commission meeting recap as soon as possible — hopefully tomorrow.

In the meantime, we’ve been able to access and review the City’s updated monthly check registers through January 31, 2023, which were miraculously posted within the last few days.

We thought you might be interested in the actual dollar amount paid to former City “Attorney” Hans Ottinot since he was hired until the end of January.

Keep in mind that, according to his contract, from February 1, 2021 through April 30, 2022 (13 months), Ottinot’s base salary was $55,000 per month, for a total of $715,000.  From May 1, 2022 through January 31, 2023 (9 months), his salary was increased to $60,000 per month, for a total of $540,000.

The total amount Hans should have received for this 22 month period was $1,255,000.

However, this is what he actually billed North Miami Beach taxpayers for:

In summary, Hans Ottinot billed taxpayers a total of $420,241.02 over and above his contracted salary, or an average of $19,101.86 a month.

That’s not even including the money spent on real attorneys to do the job that Hans was incapable of doing.

Raise your hand if you want a refund.

  1. Please tell us that the commissioners, the ones that aren’t ripping us off, are going to look into this?

  2. I do not understand, doesn’t he have to submit an itemized bill for the extra pay at least? I know this is the ledger, but how about his invoices? What is he doing for all that extra? This is why I agree that an in house attorney may be the best option.

  3. Hello , well after seeing all that went up on the 21st. I can tell you that this new lawyer is not the right one !!!!!! Immediately I saw his tendency towards the the corrupt commissioners, someone tell me if is just my imagination please ! He was intimidated specially by Mr. Fisheye (McKenzie), he really didn’t want to upset none of them. This is a bad thing from the beginning…. Another thing Fortuna needs to talk with more authority all this asking questions all the time like if she didn’t know anything is comical, and another thing they all need to be on the same page every time there’s a meeting just like the 3 corrupt commissioners do all the time, and why one of the commissioners joined the 3 corrupt to vote with no cause for the ex- managers goodbye present !? Why or is that he wanted to be Mr. Good at the last minute????? And Mr NEW Manager you have a lot firing to do, to all of this private detectives that are working within NMB different departments, that were not there before the ex- manager was hired. All I’m saying is keep your eyes open everyone, have a talk to this lawyer seriously or things are not going to change !

  4. The four real commi9ssioners need to appoint a special prosecutor attorney to go after all the illegal friends and family contracts, the donations of public funds to political parties, religious trips paid for with public funds, and the myriad of other misspent and abusive spending that the three faux commissioners and their cabal city management team that aided and abetted the spending.

  5. I’m happy for the outcome of the city manager. As a home grown north miami resident who was evicted without a possible way to defend myself,I was as upset as many here in NMB. With Sorey. Happy he is out.. Bye Sorey. Did nothing really for us in north miami, much less in nmb

  6. The interim attorney was vying for that position for months? If he were so interested in serving the residents of NMB, he should have known our charter by heart. He did not seem to have a clue and could not think on his feet. We need an in-house attorney and a national search should yield some very experienced candidates because many people want to move to Miami. As for Hans, this seems like our money was given away to him as these are ridiculous fees and if authorities do not investigate what has been put out right in front of them, this would be a huge injustice to the residents. When a new city attorney is hired, there should be clauses in the contract that prevent it from being so expensive to fire them and to prevent litigation if fired (mediation)?). A a very good outside attorney should be hired to draft a contract to prevent so many risks from firing bad attorneys and managers.
