The dirtiest of all North Miami Beach campaign tricks! (Hint: Federal laws were broken!)

A mystery hit piece arrived in North Miami Beach mailboxes last week against Tony DeFillipo, who is running for Mayor.  The disclaimer on this mailer states, “Paid for by AFSCME PEOPLE.”

On the one hand, the flyer is hilarious, referring to Tony’s slate of candidates as the Tony “Soprano” DeFillipo’s Crime Family.

What’s not funny is that AFSCME – the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees – did not commission, pay for, or send out those mailers.  And, believe me, they’re not happy that someone is impersonating their organization, which is a member of the largest federation of unions in the country, the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).

Just this afternoon, Brian Weeks, the Political Director of AFSCME sent Tony a press release disavowing any connection to this fake flyer sent out in its name.

And then representatives of the real AFSCME began an intensive investigation to find out who was behind this fraud.

Within hours – seriously, HOURS – the perpetrators were unmasked!

Minutes ago, Florida Politics just broke the story and revealed, “Now, officials with the union have sent a cease and desist order to Hector Roos, a Miami political consultant officials believe created the mailer.”

WTF?

We were advised that police reports have been filed.  The FBI may also be asked to investigate since since multiple state and federal crimes were allegedly committed, including mail fraud.

Hector Roos is the owner and operator of Thor Media Group, LLC., and is a long-time friend of this blogger.  Roos is also well acquainted with several elected officials and candidates in North Miami Beach.

We attempted to interview Mr. Roos, but he did not return our phone call.

We have one question for Hector:

Inquiring minds want to know.

  1. So, what did Michael Joseph know, and when did he know it? Roos is his guy. The flier attacked opponents of his slate-mates.

        1. There’s two more:

          The check’s in the mail.
          I won’t ___ in your … oh, never mind. It’s too crass.

          🙂

  2. Subpoenas are on the way. This flier cost money to produce. That money came from somewhere. Some people should be very, very nervous. I think Ben Kuehne will soon have himself another client in NMB.

    1. Hector will definitely need a lawyer, but I’d wager that Kuehne will not be the one he hires. Just saying.

  3. The only thing worse than this is Ray Marin’s mailer from Miami Dade County Working With You where it states “He always promoted safe neighborhoods for our families, high paying quality jobs for residents, affordable housing for all, clean water and city services managed by the city. The reality is he gave huge pay increases to employees which lead to lay offs and lack of services, how does the mayor of any city create high paying quality jobs unless they create development which DID NOT happen during Ray’s reign, clean water? did he ever read the bottled water that NMB handed out “for immediate consumption upon opening” if not it would turn green. City services that where run inefficiently and cost more to run than if they where outsourced. I guess it is okay for the residents to pay more for less as long as people that are supporting Ray are employed. During Ray’s reign there was NO development City services cost MORE and the residents got LESS. If you do not learn from history you are doomed to repeat it.
